Roofmate started because finding the right person to live with is much harder than finding the right flat.
Why we built this
Random flatshares create real problems
Most people in Athens find roommates through Facebook groups, forwarded posts or word of mouth. None of that tells you how someone actually lives. Sleep schedules clash, guests become a conflict, and work-from-home routines nobody mentioned upfront turn into daily friction. Roofmate was built to fix the part that gets ignored: figuring out whether you can actually live together before you commit.
Why Athens first
Athens is where the problem is sharpest
Athens has a fast-moving rental market, neighbourhoods that change daily life in very different ways, and a growing community of young professionals and expats navigating shared living with limited context. It felt like the right place to start — specific enough to build something useful, not a generic application that works everywhere and nowhere.
Focused on Athens neighbourhoods: Central, South, North, West
Budget matching within a €200 range
Move-in timing aligned so both sides are ready
