How to find a roommate in Athens

The hard part is rarely finding someone who needs a flatshare. The hard part is finding someone you can actually live with. In Athens, pace, commute and timing make that even more obvious.

Start with the part of Athens that fits your week

Before you talk to anyone, decide what your daily movement looks like. If you need the centre every day, that is different from wanting a quieter area with a longer commute.

Set a realistic rent range

A flatshare budget should cover rent plus the normal pressure points: bills, transport and how fast you need to move.

Do not leave the lifestyle questions for last

Ask about sleep schedule, guests, work-from-home routine, smoking, pets and cleanliness early. These are not side details. They shape the home.

Meet with the shared setup in mind

You are not only evaluating a room. You are evaluating whether the rhythm of the home suits you day after day.

Use a simple checklist before saying yes

  • Area works for your routine
  • Budget is realistic
  • Move-in timing lines up
  • House expectations are explicit
  • The other person feels consistent in person and in chat
