Safety and trust on Roofmate

No platform can remove all risk from meeting new people, but Roofmate is designed to reduce avoidable surprises before a roommate conversation even starts.

Richer profiles

Profiles include more than a name and rent number. The point is to make expectations clearer before anyone meets in person.

What phone verification means

Verifying your phone number adds a badge to your profile. It confirms you are a real person — not that Roofmate has checked your identity in full. It is one layer of accountability, not a background check.

Mutual matching before chat

Chats do not start cold. Both sides have to express interest first, which cuts down on random outreach and unnecessary pressure.

Safe first meeting tips

  • Meet in a public place the first time — a café, not the flat
  • Tell someone where you are going
  • Do not hand over a deposit or any money before you have seen the place in person
  • Trust your instincts — if something feels off, it probably is

Never send money before seeing the apartment

Do not transfer any deposit, rent or fee to someone you have not met and whose place you have not visited in person. This is the most common form of rental fraud.

Reporting and blocking

If someone behaves in a way that crosses a line, you can report them directly from their profile inside the app. You can also block a user to stop any further contact. Reports are reviewed by the Roofmate team and confirmed cases result in reduced visibility or account suspension.
